I’ve been a musician most of my life. Even as a small child, I began creating my own spontaneous songs. In high school, I became passionate about the guitar and songwriting. That passion led to two years of classical training with a voice focus at DePaul University. Those studies laid a foundation for later playing and singing on church worship teams and eventually becoming a worship leader and worship pastor.

When I was playing guitar and percussion at a prayer meeting, the leader commented that I seemed to have a talent for making the right sounds and melodies that helped people express themselves in prayer. In developing this gifting, I learned to listen to the Holy Spirit and be directed what to play on an instrument or sing. Sometimes I actually hear the sound in my mind. Other times, I just sense a leading from God as to what to do.

For two years I was part of a healing center at a Chicago area church where I played instruments and sang over people as led by the Holy Spirit. I choose to be a vessel of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is the Trinity alone that I worship and adore. They are my only source. I seek to express and release the heart of God through sound – whether songs or instruments. Many participants shared they were comforted and ministered to in their spirit and felt great peace.

I also studied at the Globe School learning more about the science of sound and various ways sound can enhance healing and wholeness. I completed training at the Vibrational Sound Association where I learned methods of placing singing bowls on the body for stress relief and deep relaxation as well as performing “sound baths”.

A sound bath is an experience where you lay down fully clothed and are “bathed” in the sounds of various instruments. The results are a calming of the racing mind and often greater peace. It can also be a time to encounter God and spend time with Him. That is what sets my individual and group sound baths apart from those run by others. My prayer and only desire is to be a pure vessel of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to release his love and his heart to those I play for. Some instruments I use come from other cultures, but God is the creator. All that is created is His and intended to bring Him glory and honor. As I use these and other instruments, they are dedicated unto Him with honor and love.

SOUND HEALING

  • Sound healing uses sound frequencies through singing bowls, gongs and percussion instruments to affect the brain and the autonomic nervous system. This calms the “fight or flight” response resulting in relaxation, healing, and individual enrichment. *Research states that music reduces stress and can improve one’s mental state, decrease muscle tension, blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate. The tones increase the release of brain chemicals which help to focus the mind, foster stronger concentration and balance moods while reducing fatigue. Sound frequencies de-stress and calm the mind, inducing a brainwave state that brings balance, rest and relaxation to body, mind, and spirit.

SOUND HEALING FAQs

  • A VST session provides benefits on multiple levels. VST helps to entrain the brain to favorable brainwave states and balances the hemispheres. The effects of the treatment can result in deeper, better sleep, help balance moods, and reduce fatigue. Relaxation during a session brings on the same kind of brain state as meditation and prayer. If you are looking to calm a racing mind, de-stress and experience deep relaxation, or if you’ve never experienced sound therapy before, then VST is for you!

  • Various instruments will be used such as crystal and metal singing bowls, chimes, gongs, tuning forks, drums and percussion instruments. The practitioner will customize each session and the instruments used based on the clients needs. The session will begin by discussing the client’s intention for the session. The client will then lie clothed on a massage table. The instruments will be placed around the body and tuning forks and singing bowls may be placed on the body. Each instrument has its place in the treatment by producing specific frequencies, tones and textures. The session ends with a period of silence for the integration of the vibrations. Afterward the client and practitioner will discuss the session.

  • The soothing warmth of the sounds envelop the client in a cocoon of celestial sounds, gently uncovering the ever-present Source of renewal. As vibrations weave their way into the body, tension begins to dissolve and brain waves begin to slow, allowing for deeper states of relaxation. As layers of stress wash away, you may experience clarity of mind or more inner understanding. Illumination and expansion can occur. Sound healing can often benefit those experiencing PTSD, anger issues, anxiety, sleeplessness and depression.

  • It is best to eat lightly. Be prepared to share what your intention is for a session. For example, deep relaxation, release from physical or emotional pain, tension or stress relief, more peace, etc.

  • At the beginning of your session, your sound facilitator will explain the layout of the session. Your sound facilitator will ask about your intention for the session. At the end, be prepared to discuss your experience of the session including how you benefited from it, along with any other general feedback.
